Applying to the Mortgage Associates Program
1. The first step in becoming a Mortgage Associate in Alberta is to successfully complete the Mortgage Associate Program (MAP).
To be eligible to register for the course, you need to fulfil three prerequisites:

Complete online application. (Please ensure the online application is completed prior to sending further documentation)

Send copy of Government issued identification stating full legal name and birth date to AMBA.

Have official transcripts sent directly from the issuing institution to the AMBA office. The transcripts must be from a recognized or authorized educational institution. Check to see if you school is a recognized institution at www.cicic.ca.
Once all documentation has been received and approved by AMBA, you will receive an email notifying you that your application has been approved and with instructions on how to proceed to registration in the course.

2. The second step is to decide which learning environment is best for you - online or in-class. The Mortgage Associates Program is available in-class in Calgary at Mt. Royal University and in Edmonton at Grant MacEwan University.

3. Once you have completed the course, the next step towards becoming a Mortgage Associate is to write the Provincial Qualifying Exam (PQE). The PQE is an online test and a grade of 70% or higher is required for licensing eligiblity. Note: There are attendance requirements (in-class) or passing grade requirements (online) which must be fulfilled in order to be permitted to write the PQE.

4. The last steps in obtaining your Mortgage Associate's license in Alberta is to (1) find a brokerage to work under and (2) submit a criminal record check to the Real Estate Council of Alberta (RECA).
